The environmental problems associated with mining are diverse. The removal of vegetation, topsoil and other strata of overburden in mining bring about inevitable consequences like air, water, noise, land pollution, deforestation, and health hazards. The present compilation provides a scenario of environmental consequences of mining of iron in Panihahar area of Madhya Pradesh. The first part deals with certain basic issues of mining and the second part Anticipated Environmental Impacts and socioeconomic concerns of the area. The methodology section describes how the present work was carried out and the other sections explain other anticipated environmental impacts and proposed mitigating measures.
