Natural Inorganic Nanotubes Based Polymer Composites for Drug Delivery: Preparation and Characterization of Halloysite Nanotubes Based Biocompatible Composites with Multifunctional Polymers
Kurt E. Geckeler
Halloysite is an aluminosilicate clay material containing particles predominantly of tubular morphology on the nanometer scale. It is an economically viable material with abundant natural reserves around the globe. Halloysite is used for various applications including preparation tableware products and anti-corrosion coatings. Due to its tubular morphology it can be also filled with pesticides and insect repellents, etc. Halloysite has also been explored for potential applications in drug delivery systems. A few studies have shown the great potential of halloysite in this regard. In this work, two composites of halloysite nanotubes with multi-functional and biocompatible polymers have been prepared and characterized for potential application in drug delivery and nanobiotechnology.
