A. H. M. Monzurul Mamun
There is a general perception that waste is a problem and to the urban governments of Bangladesh it is a challenging issue when urban utilities and services are threatened by the rapid population growth and unplanned urbanization. Rajshahi city is in disadvantaged state with the population increase and uncontrolled urban growth which results in an increased waste generation. The city corporation with its limited resources is in a backbreaking situation in managing the increased waste. Moreover, improperly managed waste causes various environmental problems including greenhouse gas emission. This book introduces some low cost treating options of green waste which are environmentally sound against crude dumping practice. With the calculation of greenhouse gas emission reduction potential, this book also provides an statement about the linkage between green waste management and climate change. The analysis can help the municipal authorities of underdeveloped and developing communities in green waste management planning and implementation to promote and environmentally sustainable city environment.
