Polypharmacy practices are very common in psychiatry specially in Bangladesh. Psychiatric patients receive multiple drugs in order to have their therapeutic recovery. Both typical and atypical antipsychotic drugs are frequently prescribed by the psychiatrists. Use of multiple antipsychotic molecules may exert some sort of synergistic efficacy but cause a lot of unwanted side effects in the long run. Such a practice can adversely affect the quality of life of the corresponding patients. More rational use of antipsychotic drug should practiced in psychiatry with a view to ensuring quality of life of the psychiatric patients. Atypical antipsychotic drugs are new generation drugs and more safe for use. Besides atypical antipsychotic drugs sometimes offer some unique benefits which make them unparalleled choice. Appropriate drug should be chosen depending on the disease condition and overall benefits of the patients. Unnecessary any molecules' use should be discouraged so that adverse effects or metabolic side effects can be minimized to the least content. In this way we can expect better quality of life along with stabilized psychiatric patients.
