The Study and Knowledge of the development of future energy demand of the European Union's Industry based on in depths analysis of the technological structure of different industrial branches, is crucial to take measures in order to improve the efficiency of energy consumption and for reducing greenhouse gases. Fraunhofer ISI has developed a model for the evaluation of technical energy saving options and to build alternative scenarios for the future energy demand of the sectors. The past modelling work lay on electricity consuming technologies and their saving potentials in the main energy intensive processes but it does not cover the low-temperature heat consumption. Therefore, this book assess how much and how is low temperature heat used in the European industries, identifies promising technologies to further improve energy efficiency, and quantify the long-term energy saving potentials and reduction of CO2 emissions by the integration of solar thermal technologies in the European food industrial processes using the model. The analysis should help a broad readership who are working on the application of energy efficiency technologies in different industrial processes.
