Description for Sales People: The book provides a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art techniques for detection, treatment and prevention of biofouling and biocorrosion in water systems, cooling waters, heat exchangers, and other industrial water and biocorrosion and thus, to design specific and effective strategies against these effects. Last not least, it helps to avoid expensive and ineffective counter measures. Table of Contents: Introduction: Biofilms as a Particular Form of Microbial Life.- Biofouling: Effects and Control.- Role of Bacterial Adhesion in Biofilm Formation and Biocorrosion.- Biofouling in Water Treatment.- Biofouling on Reverse Osmosis Membranes.- Biocides and the Current Status of Biofouling Control in Water Systems.- Bacterial Growth and Biofouling Control in Purified Water Systems.- What Is Biocorrosion?.- Case Histories: Biocorrosion.- Sulphate-reducing Bacteria and their Role in Biocorrosion.- Biofilms and Corrosion.

Contributor Bio:  Flemming, Hans-Curt Fritz Frimmel holds the Chair of Water Chemistry and is director of the Research Laboratory of the German Gas and Water Association at the Engler-Bunte-Institute, University of Karlsruhe (TH). He studied chemistry, and made his doctorate and habilitation at the Technical University of Munich. He was research scholar at the University College Dublin and was visiting professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and at the Academy Nishnij Novgorod.
