The subject is introduced by giving a definition of the term 'secularisation'. Further, the concept of a secularised state is specified. In that context, also the relationship between democracy and religion is considered. Furthermore, an answer to the question whether religion is in recurrence or not, is approached. Finally, there is a closer look onto Europe and its position in the secularisation debate.
