We are surprised at change, though it is guaranteed. Our economic world is characterized by rising andfalling prospects but our policies ignore theorganizational, cultural, and interpersonalimplications of these changes. Much can be gained bysegmenting the economy into three groups anddesigning economic programs to appeal to each. Entrepreneurs serve us by opening markets andrefreshing our options. They found ventures andintensify competition. Mature organizations are atthe center of our economic affairs. They provide formost of our needs. As mature organizations and theirunderlying markets enter into decline, however, weneed programs for evaluating their prospects. Theymay merit assistance in redefining themselves. We maywish to support the needs of their people, who haveskill and experience, but are not entrepreneurial. Necrosis, the basis for necronomy, is an unnatural, painful kind of destruction that occurs when marketsare distorted to meet the needs of mature ordeclining organizations at the expense of vibrantmarkets. Model Economics is a means of leveragingbiological approaches to growth, maturity, anddecline in the economy for sustained well-being.
