The development of college/university linkedretirement communities on or near a campus has becomea significant movement across the country. Themotivation of older adults returning to campus isqualitatively different from those who choosetraditional retirement communities. It is obviousthat there is a hunger for something more than warmweather and a condo on the 5th green. It isfundamentally about personal growth, the developmentof new and more valued roles and an enabling culturethat fosters the creation of new models for retirement. This book analyzes the characteristics andmotivations of seniors who are attracted to suchcommunities; the attributes of the environment thatmotivate and support purposive activities of seniorresidents and; the role colleges and universities arebeginning to play in creating new models for retirement. It provides a conceptual framework ofcollege/university linked retirement communitiesdeveloping new models for retirement that should beespecially useful to colleges and universities, professionals in senior housing and environment andaging fields, and older adults who would like toreinvent themselves in the new models of retirement.
