This book aims to fill the gap of studyingcontemporary Chinese writers from a quantitativeanalysis perspective. By using computer-aidedqualitative data analysis, the book examines thecharacteristics, development history, andgeographical distribution of writers of the ChineseWriters' Association from the founding of thePeople's Republic of China in October 1949 to the endof the twentieth century (1999). Issues covered include number, gender, ethnicity, age, educational background, first publication, ageof joining the CWA, writers who were sent to thecountryside during the Rustication Movement andprofessional writers, as well as the impact ofpolitical movements on the above.
