Anthropology has become a focus of contemporary scientific research in several academic fields, especially philosophy and theology. Questions of normativity and validity circle around a possible justification for an 'anthropology instead of metaphysics', as well as for epistemological questions in the form of an 'anthropology of theory'. Anthropology has also been a major issue of Protestant Reformation. Luther's treatise 'On the Freedom of a Christian', as well as his disputations, reveal a new insight into the human condition, as a central point of his theological awareness. In the year of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation this key issue of reformatory theology will be raised in contributions by Thomas Kruger, Samuel Vollenweider, Albrecht Beutel, Michael Moxter and Michael Welker (introduction by Walter Sparn).
