Les Raisins du baobab is a collection of poems into four parts - Dakaroises, Terreaux d'Afrique, Sutura, and Un Elan d'Humanism - written by the author between December 2002 and May 2009. In Les Raisins du baobab, Ibrahima Amadou Niang questions the image of Africa in urban and rural areas, and in the mentality of African peoples and elsewhere. Deftly wading through minefields of expectations, beliefs and values, the book encourages readers to take confront the image of the continent and participate in a true African renaissance. Through a spatial-temporal framework embedded in Africa and his native country, Senegal, the poet takes the reader on a spiritual journey, invoking the ancestors, seasons, seas, food, loves, and pains around him. A multitude of feelings that will revive in the reader a desire for rootedness and openness to the world without fear. Niang's poetry reflects a philosophy that oscillates between rootedness and openness. This first poetry collection is a bridge through which he stokes the flames of hope and renaissance in Africa, burrowing through culture and humanism for a true global citizen.
