As we walk through these lessons we will get to know Jesus through the eyes of Matthew. Matthew's life was transformed when he met Jesus and later he was able to record many of his observations and insights, so that we too can be transformed. Only in Matthew do we learn what motivated Jesus to leave the glories of heaven --- to seek and save that which is lost. Only in Matthew do we hear Jesus describe Himself, " I am lowly and humble of heart." Matthew alone gives us the astounding claim that Jesus made, "If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father." Through this study we see the escalating frustration of Christ with religion that is not rooted in relationship with the Father. We also view His incredible capacity for compassion and willingness to heal and restore. Matthew, more than any other Gospel writer understood the Old Testament scriptures and explains their fulfillment in the life and death of Christ. The study of the Gospel of Matthew will give you the foundation for knowing the Lord Jesus better.
