In the Shadow of the Little Smoky Mountains
G Habig Boor
At first Chicago born and bred photojournalist, Charlie Harris, found a two week assignment reporting about life on the Montana ranch, Roamnomore, not at all to her liking. Matriarch Kelsey Waters and her youngest son, Ty, and foreman, Mex Oberman, made her feel welcomed, but older son Jon treated her coldly. In spite of his aloofness, she soon realized that she was falling in love with him. To everyone's amazement Charlie took to ranch life as if she were born to it and quickly changed her mind about Roamnomore and the wonderfully-wild state of Montana. But Jon, believing that Charlie had fallen for his good-looking brother, Ty, or was involved with a telephoning Chicago suitor, avoided her as much as he could. With time running out, Charlie tells Kelsey a lie to prolong her stay, hoping against hope that Jon will make some kind of move in her direction. But all seems lost, until that explosive night before she was scheduled to fly back to Chicago.
