Luke is on top of the world-and then everything changes. One minute, the doctor is being named the dean of McMillan Medical School. The next, a stroke leaves him paralyzed and unable to communicate. Against the objections of his daughter, his bitter wife places him in Shadydale, a rural nursing home headed by the vindictive Martha Benson. Benson once lost her nursing license because of Luke. As soon as he steps foot in the home, she vows he will never leave Shadydale alive.



As Luke tries to endure Benson's bitter cruelties, he begins to make friends with the patients and other nurses at the home. Whatever else he has lost, Luke is still a doctor, and he discovers that a little faith-in God and himself-can do a lot of healing.
