During Nathan Reed's search for the murderer of his family, he stumbles into treacherous territory and ends up saving the life of Leslie Cromwell, a young widow with questionable in-laws. An army investigation exposes the corruption in the town of Black River, and Nathan gets caught up in the explosive reactions of the Cromwells and their brutal cohorts, any one of whom could be the dangerous and deadly murderer he is seeking. As Black River erupts in fury, Nathan is outnumbered and faces almost certain death.
