Follow along with Mrs. Moomoo and Brianna as they go on another adventure. Today the happy twosome meet a young boy named Tommy, who has autism. French Fries in the Park is a great source for discussion, whether in a classroom setting or at home, that will help children understand what autism is and how it affects some children. The story line is simple with charming full-color illustrations on each page that will easily captivate younger children. This story encourages children to be mindful and patient of the differences children with autism have, but also to recognize the similar wants and likes these children have that are the same as their own. What is autism? Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. The result of a neurological disorder that impacts the functioning of the brain, autism impacts the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills (The Autism Project). As with all of the books in the Brianna & Mrs. Moomoo series, a percentage of all sales go to help support local children's charities. 10% of all sales for French Fries in the Park will go to help fund The Autism Project. May they continue to support the children with ASD and their families for many years to come. "JM Sheridan created a warm and welcoming story with endearing characters that introduces young children to the idea that their friends, siblings, cousins and/or neighbors with autism really are more like them than not, just like their other friends. It provides opportunity for adults to describe differences in a non-judgmental manner in language young children will understand." Joanne G. Quinn Executive Director, The Autism ProjectFrench Fries in the Park by J. M. Sheridan is a beautiful story that introduces young readers to autism. In this story, readers are introduced to Tommy who has autism and they get to know certain characteristics of autism. The author explains it in a simple and easy way, making readers understand what it is to be autistic and the characteristics of an autistic person. It is adorable to see Brianna and Tommy becoming friends in the park and playing together, though Tommy does not look her in the eye. The illustrations are as charming as the story and bring the characters and the story alive for young readers. This book is a good way to introduce children to autism, especially if there are autistic children at home. Explaining to them with the help of a story and characters like Brianna, Tommy, Shadow, and Mrs. Moomoo will make it easy for them to understand the concept quickly. Mamta Madhavan Readers' Favorite
