Who Knew... Angela Sprangers

Through author Angela Sprangers' extensive love affair with children's books, she came to realize that a lot of the kids she worked with didn't get to see themselves in the books they were reading. Then, one winter afternoon at a conference about reading in Madison, Wisconsin, the speaker stated that there were more books about bears than about kids of different races and abilities. In a time when learning about diversity in every way is so crucial, the possibilities of exposure for many kids are still lacking. In that moment, her book, this book, your book, was born. Angela wants kids of all walks (or wheels) of life, of all backgrounds and skin colors to see one thing...at the heart, kids are just kids. In this book, Angela's prose tells a short tale of just a few kids from different walks of life, many from her own personal experiences. She wraps up the book like a beautiful little present when we get to meet some of the kids and hear from their parents on how "normal" life is for them. We are all very different, but we are still the same-every kid just wants to play, have friends, and be included... just be a kid.
