These 28 short stories, most of them award winning, come from my 40 years of emergency medicine experience. Each story is based on a different medical illness, such as appendicitis, PTSD, and trauma. In my forty years as an E. R. doctor, I've seen the comic, the heroic, and the tragic. In these stories I've drawn from dramatic real-life events, emphasizing the human nature of illness and how it dramatically changes our lives. The weaknesses and strengths of our medical community come alive in these tales from the emergency room.
