Many people who leave the country of their birth to find work far away from home can see more clearly how much it has changed than those who remain. Growing up in Jamaica, Dorrel Saunders left the island for England, having heard that work and money were plentiful there. Planning to stay for just five years, he remained for twenty-five, but through his visits to his former home, he gained a sharp appreciation of how much it was changing in his absence. Come Back Jamaica is both a lament for the lost country of his youth and an exhortation to his fellow Jamaicans to regain the virtues lost in recent decades.
