How beautiful the night. A lustrous moon did make Her image, dancing diamonds, Upon the silver lake. And shimmered there, A wondrous vision bright, As I beheld The angel of the night. No shadow could erase The memory of her lovely face. Close to her heart, A babe so tender lay In sweet transition From this earthly day. Yet I, no fretful whimper heard, Above the angel's soothing word. But baby gurgles of delight Lingered in the silent night. She was aware, my presence there, And an overwhelming love divine Embraced me, when her eyes Met mine.
