Rowet is a peaceful rural town, far from the bustling capital of Malone. But Mayor Snout has a dilemma: the town's defences are crumbling in disrepair, and with raiders and wargs roaming the wilds beyond the walls, a plan is needed. Two companions, happy-go-lucky jobber, Dukmar, and Gaffe the spell-bungling yemon, undertake the arduous trek to the capital to find a master builder willing to take on the job. Their route soon takes them into peril, as they find themselves battling their way through encounters with sorcery, bewitching temptresses, mysterious pirates, wise-cracking swords and ancient demon grudges. They soon find themselves shouldering responsibility not only for Rowet but for the safety of the kingdom itself: in a world where nothing is as it seems and menace lurks around every bend in the road, can Rowet's unlikely heroes deliver?
