The life of Felicia, a gorgeous woman in her forties and English teacher, is a wasteland of upsetting experiences, but the Chance goes in her aid by taking her to the encounter of some unexpected characters of the legal outskirts, designers of a small but lucrative hard-core production company: Raven Dreams, Ltd. -more a Fraternity than a clandestine firm-. She will meet this way Virginia and Ms. Robinson. The first one, a beautiful girl in her late teens with a double life: both an apathetic schoolgirl in the morning and a promising porn star at night; the latter, a superb matron of undefined age, very sagacious and gifted with a supernatural smell, which is guided in life by a goblin who whispers to her in her ear. And Mr. Cuervo, foreigner investor in Cuba-in the iceberg's visible part-but the guru of the Sect in the submerged one, its Great Architect: a multinational man in his fifties, cosmopolitan and philosopher, who aspire to elevate the hard-porn up the Major Art status. A story of prominent roles shared with other no less singular characters. Namely: a sculptural, Dionysian clerk lady of the Spanish consulate in Havana / a young assistant manager, social climber and fornicator, a rehearsal of Cuban yuppie / a noble housewife, as decent as full of erotophilia / an ex comrade-revolutionary whose only motivation today is his old automobile / a lucid psychiatric dissident woman / an outlandish gay, friend and teacher of handicapped boys and girls / a Down syndrome boy capable of winning a difficult game of chess for achieving the favor of the girl he loves . . . A novel in satirical key, in which Humor, Sex and Absurdity make a ménage à trois in that Havana of the New Millennium, that of the Lengthy Especial Period. Without the pretension of becoming a Milesian tale, but taking in loan the tools of this latter, BUNS IN THE OVEN delivers itself to the risqué expression and the Picaresque, in its eagerness of being, via Burlesque Realism, a sort of shock to the system, an expressive knock for a country and its current times so needy of social transparency.
