He enrolled into university, and was able to gain entry to the priesthood as a Baptist minister. His staunchly traditional views however were at odds with his contemporaries, and for a time he lived in poverty without a congregation - it was during and soon after this period of hardship that Scroggie's finest works were put to paper.
