1831. Charles Kingsley is growing up in Clovelly, Devon. At a young age he is no stranger to death and rioting that is prevalent in Victorian England.
Whilst at Cambridge University he falls hopelessly in love but his dreams of marrying Fanny Grenfell are thwarted by her family. He goes to great lengths to prove that he is worthy of her whilst struggling with a secret about his sex life.
He enters the Church and comes to Eversley, Hampshire as a Curate. However, his reputation as a firebrand and revolutionary grows in political and religious circles. Despite this he finds favour with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
Driven to highlight the sufferings of the poor, he is the author of many novels that finally bring him national acclaim yet beset by financial problems, he suffers physical and mental collapses throughout his life.
This is a story of an eminent Victorian driven to right the wrongs of the world through his many passions....
