When his school bus is lost in a horrific thunderstorm, Mikko McLaine finds himself farther from home than he's ever been, in a land he's never even heard of. But this is just the beginning of his problems.

With his life in Toronto suddenly put on hold, a new life in Duskey - a strange city from back in time - quickly unravels, leaving Mikko with more questions than answers. Just who is Mr. Vallance, the brown-cloaked man from the train station, and why does he ship Mikko to a castle to train as a stable hand? More confusingly, why does the man entrust Mikko with a precious sapphire - a magical stone that instantly has villains chasing him down, including the chief of police?

With the forces of evil seemingly plotting against him, Mikko wants nothing more than to return home. But, in order to do so, he must find the two remaining magical stones, defeat a monstrous beast, and unlock the door back to Toronto.

His quest shall not be easy, but, it is a matter of life and death.
