Asian American Kara Farney takes children into the world of imagination as a young boy wonders about his teacher and what she does when she is not in school. In rhyming couplets that teach word recognition while setting up humorous situations, the child's imagination plays. He sees his black teacher in all sorts of funny situations at first and then imagines her as he has experienced her, a loving, caring, creative, and playful adult and parent. He imagines she acts toward other people the way she acts toward him. The story is funny and moving. The list of questions at the end call on the child to remember what s/he has read and to do their own imaginging...and talk about what they wonder, admitting the adults who read to them into their interior world.

This book was first written when Farney herself was a young child. It remained for 20+ years in her grandmother's drawer until in 2020 they decided to illustrate and share it. It is, consequently, an invitation to experience how a young child's imagination works and to cultivate imaginative wondering in small persons you know.

Other I WONDER... books are coming soon. One about what humans do when they are not in the zoo (from a baby chimp's perspective) and one what dogs do when no one is at home. bluecedarpress.com
