Backcountry Excursions is a collection of six short hiking narratives set in the wildlands of the Northeast, from New York's Adirondacks and Vermont's Green Mountains, to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Maine Woods. These first-person accounts bring to life the wonder and beauty of the Northern Forest. Whether hiking with companions or alone, in well-known places or off the beaten path, the author ruminates about our rather complex and often contradictory relationship to the natural world.
