Updated as of May 29, 2018 This final rule bans the sale or distribution of air-conditioning and refrigeration appliances containing HCFC-22, HCFC-142b, or blends containing one or both of these substances, beginning January 1, 2010. In addition, EPA is banning the sale or distribution of air-conditioning and refrigeration appliance components that are pre-charged with HCFC-22, HCFC-142b, or blends containing one or both of these controlled substances as the refrigerant. These prohibitions apply only to appliances and components manufactured on or after January 1, 2010.
