Mysterious events are plaguing the small town of Canniston. Strange lights appear in the night-time sky, spreading rumours of U. F. O.s. A mystery epidemic is killing animals and causing skin disease in the children of the town. People who ask questions disappear. Robbie, who lives with his heavy-drinking father, is out walking with his dog, Cabre, when he unearths an ancient Egyptian statuette, mysteriously buried near the small English town. He and his friends follow a trail of clues to find out who or what lies behind the peculiar messages which appear on Harry's computer and send Lizzie's calculator berserk. A chain of strange events leads them to discover that their town lies at the heart of a mystery which reaches out through time and space; to the Ancient Egyptians, an African tribe with impossible knowledge and far into the galaxy to the Dog Star, Sirius, at the very heart of the mystery which must be solved to save the town from destruction.
