Moreover hospitals and nursing homes harbor resistant bacteria and pathogens, thus apart from affordability, there are good reasons for providing health care of people in their homes. Telemedicine-based home medical care is achievable. The home of the future can be set up for continuous, real-time communication of the vital signs of its patient to the doctor's office or a clinic. The promise is immense, but some hurdles still remain. The 24-hour care concept of a "Smart Home" is particularly well suited for seniors, preserving their ability to stay in their home with telemedicine monitoring and safetyIf the medical industry embraced technology and starts promoting telemedicine, the health care of the future could look very different than it does today.
