In 2004, I visited Costa Rica for the first time and went home with a deed to 200-acres of land. I built my farm and developed the rest of the property into ten large farm lots-building roads, bridges, a water system, and electric service. Realizing my retirement dreams, I created a successful horseback tour business called Rancho Tranquilo, and spent my days taking riders to the gorgeous waterfalls in our valley. For nine years, I lived with, and learned from, my Tico neighbors who adopted me as a member of the community. Eventually, I sold my farm and tour business, and moved up the coast to a beach house with one horse: my soulmate, Ares. Everything was falling into place...until six months later, when a horrific tragedy changed everything.
