The chemistry of the carbonyl compound is virtually the backbone of synthetic organic chemistry. Carbonyl compounds serve as the starting material for the synthesis of various naturally occurring molecules viz., cholesterol, caryophyllene, santonin, reserpine, etc.

In the present book, I am concentrating more on mechanistic aspects of the reactions involving carbonyl compounds, which are not discussed in detail in other textbooks.
