It was considered an influence to Lewis Carroll and Vladimir Nabokov. She also wrote a great deal of children's stories, including A Very Simple Story (1866), her first. Montgomery died at the age of 80, from breast cancer. She lived her whole life in her family's estate, along with her sisters.
