In the hot summer of 1956, the dreaded polio epidemic broke out in Atlanta, Georgia. The polio vaccine had just become available and some were still unsure of it and very skeptical. I was one of the unfortunate ones that the terrible virus attacked. I was paralyzed from the neck down at four years of age and lived one full year at Warm Springs, Georgia.
