Before knowing Christ, he lived a life filled with drugs, alcohol abuse, violence, and incarceration. After the heartbreak of divorce, John hitchhiked throughout the United States and Canada in the late 1970s to try to heal and find himself. Instead, the Lord found him - pulling him from the miry clay, as the song says. He has been a Christian for three decades. He has two grown children who follow Jesus and three grandchildren.
