When Milford High School's prom queen, student council president, and soon to be recipient of the coveted school's scholarship is found dead two weeks before graduation, Principal James White is convinced something sinister is at hand and calls upon the sleuthing skills of Gilbert Clancy.

With help from his beautiful and brilliant wife Sylvia, Clancy begins to unravel the mystery of a girl who seems just too good to be true; who in contrast is liked by very few, and hated by many more. When the investigation reveals that two separate murderers, using two very different poisons, chose that same night to kill the same girl, the list of suspects gets exponentially longer. In the end it is a keen understanding of that which motivates the human psyche that brings the killer to justice.
