In 2002, an American teacher, full of half-baked dreams of the Silk Road and half-crazed visions of adventure, brought his family to Xinjiang, China's westernmost outpost. In Xinjiang, they were the only western family in eight hundred miles. A half of a continent away from the nearest McDonalds, and without English TV and books, they experienced a comparatively normal life . . . full of yurts, yak yoghurt, camel rides, and horse sausage. In the midst of this, they came to love the people, sites, and smells of Xinjiang, a place they came to call home, a place they will never forget. Tour with them sites they loved, and relive their experiences, whether they be bus rides from Hell, ancient cities whose people are now lost to time, or the sublime beauty of the Milky Way as seen from the top of the world.
