Jenna Stuart and Chris Walker, childhood sweethearts, pledge undying love when he and his parents move away from coastal Bridgeport. They lead separate lives; she as a dance instructor who stays behind; he as a research scientist who lives in Paris. Thirty plus years pass and he returns to his home town unbeknown to Jenna. He plans a surprise encounter that coincides with her dance recital. Her shock at seeing him again, coupled with the stress of the dance production produces results that nearly destroy the reunion.
