In this world, there is more trying to push us down, push us around, and make us feel there is nothing of purpose or plan for our lives, rather than to encourage our potential and efforts. It is embodied in what author Shirley T. McKenzie calls having a "little mindset" or being so narrow-minded in focus toward achieving your dreams and realizing your purpose in creation. However, there is a way to escape this mindset and uphold one that reaches high and one that aligns with the purpose chosen for you by God. In her third book, You Can't Be BIG if little Got You, Shirley discusses the "big mindset"; one that believes God has shaped you and directed you on a path to success that is more than you could imagine. Much of how Shirley learned of defeating the little mindset came from her own life story, growing up in poverty and in frequent homes with her siblings and single mother. She wanted more for her life but grappled with feelings of unworthiness and resentment to her situation. It wasn't until a revival at her grandma's church caused Shirley to seek and pursue a relationship with God, sensing something different inside of her when she accepted Jesus as her savior. The challenges didn't end there but intensified, while Shirley went onto married her high-school sweetheart, raise children, and embark on a calling from God to preach. Church leader apprehension towards a female preacher prompted Shirley to question God's reasoning for calling her to the pulpit, even asking the Lord to given this dream to someone else. However, it was the little mindset that had grabbed hold of Shirley, so she had to refuse this mindset and regain her grip on the big mindset, knowing the almighty God was leading her through the trials to success. You Can't Be BIG if little Got You is to encourage all to let go of little mindsets that make you believe you can't achieve greatness and accept the big mindset God has created just for you!
