It begins with Paul's fixation with Marie's legs under a school desk. Soon the two teenagers are together, and she is singing in his group, next stop Top of the Pops.

This is a story of two young lovers that unfolds against a background of grammar school and Beatles's era pop music. It is a time of long, easy summer, new freedom, and sense of fun. But as the young couple finishes school and moves into the adult world, their relationship is threatened by the influence of family and, for Paul, the temptation of an older woman at his place of work.
