True Allegiance Jane Clark
True Allegiance
Jane Clark
Thomas St. Clair, an adventurous young Scotsman, bids farewell to his parents in Dundee, Scotland, in 1893 and travels to America where he hopes to find a job working for the ever-expanding railroads. He promises his father he will return someday after he earns enough money to help his family overcome the economic depression that prevails in his native land, however, it would be more than thirty years before he saw Scotland again. Thomas's love for a woman becomes stronger than his love of country when he marries Bonnie Maguire. In 1904 he renounces his allegiance to Scotland to become a U. S. Citizen, and he and Bonnie buy a farm in southern Illinois. Thomas is a stern but loving father whose strong religious faith guides him through the trials of raising six children in the early 1900s. True Allegiance is an endearing story of love and loss, inheritance and redemption, and finding peace for conflicting emotions.
