This is a 1917 story about a wolf-dog puppy who is separated from his family and is forced to learn to survive on his own. The story is full of both animal and human high-drama: Baree is rejected by his pack and almost killed in the process. And his savior, a young Cree Indian woman, is practically killed by a ruthless trapper who intends to marry her or die trying. Surprise endings for both Baree and his human.
