Il sacerdotale di Alberto da Castello e le sue numerose edizioni (1523-1603)

Much of the Roman Ritual was based on work by the Dominican Alberto Castellani James F. WHITE, Roman Catholic Worship, p. 8-9 In 1523, for example, the Dominican Alberto Castellani brought out his "Sacerdotale, seu Liber sacerdotalis collectus" which secured the approval of Pope Leo X and went into a whole series of editions for several decades, amoung them the late Venetian edition of 1585, which bore the title "Sacerdotale Romanum ad consuetudinem S. Romanae Ecclesiae et aliarum ecclesiarum [...] collectum [...]". A. WARD - C. JOHNSON, "Rituale romanum reimpressio", p. XVIII.
These two simple quotations are witnesses of the importance of the work made up by Alberto da Castello and the echoes obtained by the numerous editions (over 24!) of his "sacerdotale" in XVI century.
This historical research is oriented to prepare an edition of the text and a critical study on his sources.
