San Francisco, 1972. A female corpse is found as day begins at Lands End, the craggy promontory where that enchanting city meets the churning ocean. That same morning private investigator Rex Nichols is called in on a case of a cheating wife. While Rex is in the architectural office of the husband, getting briefed on the woman's activities, news arrives that the Lands End victim is the firm's young bookkeeper.
