How a World Teacher Comes Annie Besant

I propose this evening to give what I may call an introductory lecture, touching on points of supreme importance from my own standpoint as regards what I am to say to you about this coming of the Teacher. And I will ask you to remember that it is a subject that I have been dealing with now for many years, have lectured on in country after country, including last year, after the course was over, the special lecture given on this subject, printed so that you can read it. Now in all those lectures I based the subject very, very largely on the fact that in the previous comings of the World-Teacher you might trace in history a particu¬lar sequence. So that I shall only just allude, in passing, to the fact that His coming in the past has been accom¬panied by the appearance of a new type of mankind. I am not going to speak about that now, but I mention the fact, and also of the founding of a new civilisation specially intended for the evolution of that new type. My appeal in those lectures was for study, that if you thought that in what I said I had made out a certain case worthy of consideration, then you could study it for yourselves, and on that study base any opinion that might appeal to you, for or against my argument.
