She thought her three was done and over, she had almost died on duty as the result of a high speed chase that ended her career. Then their son was still born. No one ever told them that no two people grieve the same, or at the same speed or that some steps repeat, when Gabe filed for divorce, she was done with it all. Time to move on. She had a thriving business, the girls. Then in one phone call her world tilted, her heart hadn't healed from Daniel and now her precious daughter was in ICU, the victim of a shooting. There wasn't a guide book for kids that were "normal" why should there be one for ones that are "broken"? Now Gabe and Bree had to figure out how to heal 2 daughters equally damaged from the event, just in totally different ways. Along the way they realize maybe they gave up too easy. If they can get past the distrust and hurt, maybe there was something worth salvaging.
