Set in 1960's Peckham. Strudwick runs his French polish and German sausage company as a benign proprietor, and his sudden removal from the company creates a vacuum which sets off a chain of events that could result in financial ruin. But the staff unexpectedly rise to the occasion as they fight for their survival. A class of workers used to having their thinking done for them suddenly need to learn new mental skills. They rapidly assimilate the arts of deviousness and corporate deceit as they struggle to ensure their future. But they are not without help in their struggle.
