Book Five for 10 to 14 year olds: With Abbot and Jerry gone for the summer, Johnny has some time on his hands (never a good thing for the sanity of those around him!). A new mystery surfaces in which a lone bandit, wearing crimson boots and shirt, with black pants, gloves, hat and mask covering his face, goes on a rampage, holding up dozens of people within fifty miles of Red Bend. Those people all have one thing in common and discovering that will help Johnny solve the case. Doc's expertise is also required again in this one. So, there is a bandit, stealing from others, but Johnny is sad to think he will have to go to jail. Huhh
