The story is 5,000 words long in short chapters intended for younger readers. It's a great book to read aloud because of the drama of the story with strong characters and odd situations. Andrew Ashcroft is a teacher and intends for his stories to encourage children who are reluctant readers using action, humour and simple but effective language. He has chosen to produce the book with a simple font to make it easier to read. Users of American English should read 'principal' for 'headteacher' and 'mom' for 'mum'. Although Mr Gross is gross, the story is not particularly vulgar or lavatorial.
